It is a great honor for me to address through valuable the Diplomatic Star Magazine.
On May 28, 1918, the Azerbaijan National Council declared the independence of Azerbaijan, assumed governing of the country and adopted historical Declaration of Independence.
As a parliamentary republic, Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was the first democratic, legal state in the whole East and Islamic world, emerging as a logic conclusion of Azerbaijani Nation’s centuries-old social-economic, political and cultural development, as well as the result of the national awakening and revival processes. Unfortunately, Soviet occupation terminated the spring of freedom after 23 months.
Despite having a short life, the sense of independence which had never abandoned the hearts of Azerbaijanis, our people regained its independence under hard conditions in 1991, based on the traditions of the Democratic Republic and created the present independent state of Azerbaijan in complicated situation. After this time, Azerbaijan began to establish friendly relations with brotherly countries, like Pakistan. Now, Azerbaijan and Pakistan enjoy the trusted and frank ties in all spheres of life.
At the moment, Azerbaijan is in the way of progress, promoting democratic, civil development, economic growth, building open and free market economy. I am confident that younger generation of Azerbaijan will prove dedicated, determined in consolidating the independence of their native land.
